"The Evil That Men Do' is a story set in Cumberland County, North Carolina beginning in the 1930's, about a courageous newspaper woman who, with her son and  close friends, took on the evil Ku Klux Klan, and is filled with romance, suspense and ironic twists.

From the Local Events Section of the July 16th, 1933 edition of The Wadesville Weekly News:

The Wadesville Chapter of the United Klans of America will hold a rally and free picnic at Boyd's Lake next Friday afternoon from noon until six.  All Klansmen, their families, and other white, God-fearing, non-Catholic Christians who wish to know more about the important role of the Ku Klux Klan in our community and nation are invited to attend.  Klansmen are requested to attend in their full Klan attire.

                                                        From the Author:

My choice to write about the evils of the Ku Klux Klan is to personalize and more accurately recall a part of our history, albeit sad and painful to so many good and decent people, and how we have evolved into a more humane and intelligent society.  I sadly recall being acquainted with several Klansmen in my younger days who, at best, would not even qualify to be in the dregs of today's society.
